Abstract

The present study analysed the effects of gamified activities on the strengthening of reading and writing skills in fifth grade elementary school students. The general objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of gamified activities on the strengthening of reading and writing skills in fifth grade students. A mixed approach was used, allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of gamification strategies on learning. Quantitative methods include pre- and post-intervention tests to measure progress in reading and writing skills, while qualitative observations were made using index cards to record student participation and engagement during the activities. In addition, teacher and parent surveys will be administered to gain a broader perspective. The results showed significant improvements in literacy skills, as well as in students' motivation and interest towards academic activities. Gamification contributed to a more dynamic and interactive learning environment, promoting collaboration and engagement of participants. However, challenges were identified in customising activities to address diverse needs and learning styles. They underlined the importance of integrating innovative methodologies such as gamification into teaching, adapting them to specific contexts, to maximise their effectiveness. This study provides relevant evidence on the transformative potential of gamification in educational settings, offering a basis for future research and pedagogical practices aimed at improving basic skills in primary education contexts.
