The Venezuelan school system is experiencing an unprecedented systemic crisis. This study analyzes this crisis through a historical bibliographic approach (1960–2025) and a case study at the Faculty of Agronomy of the Central University of Venezuela (2013–2024), based on institutional data from three human development courses taught by the author. The decision to use the term "school system" stems from the need to link findings from secondary education (SECEL, 2022) with those from higher education, in line with UNESCO recommendations (2023). The results reveal teacher emigration of nearly 60%, average salaries of US$18 per month, dropout rates exceeding 50% in some programs, and critical infrastructure deterioration. Analysis of 650 newly enrolled students shows a pass rate of 65.14%, a failure rate of 33.76%, and a dropout rate of 16.15%, with high interannual variability (±27.69%). Only 3.75% reported extracurricular reading habits, correlating with reading comprehension deficiencies reported in secondary education. The crisis is characterized by a generational loss of young teachers, the dismantling of research, and projections that estimate it will take up to a century to reach OECD standards.
